![]() The long parts with androids in the middle of the game, however, I absolutely loved. Mission 18, even if with 2 Aliens, took place in a really small map and wasn't as tense. It's seriously intense for me and easily matches the long Mission 10. Now, I agree with you on Mission 18, but I think the Mission this game should've ended is Mission 17. In fact, if you check out a wiki-page "Cut Content"on Isolation in AvP wiki, the initially written story for it would've stretched the game up to 30 if not 40 hours (taking in to account the pacing of this game too), and even in that initial write up, the ending is similar to what we see in the final release. Now, at first I will debunk this: As disappointing as it may be for you to read, and despite the overall impression you got from Mission 10, it was never considered, intended nor designed to be a final mission of the game. There are sections that I believe could've been done better, story and pacing wise, like the Anesidora part felt a bit rushed, or at least awkwardly put in the story, the second hive part was and is absolutely unnecessary and should've been cut, along with that sequel bait it sets up, but every time I would finish the campaign I end up wanting more. I never, in all my 200+ hours of playing this game's campaign through over and over, found it to be too long. Point (1) is probably the one that splits people's opinion on the game (of those who liked it I mean) the most, and that includes you and me. Now, even tho I have my little share of complaints, I actually disagree with most of your points. I think that they should have added something along the lines of guiding a protagonist through a section by monitoring CCTV cameras in that specific section, or anything that would bring a breath of fresh air.įirst of all - nice to see people being critical of the game, looking in-depth in to it, nalyzing is healthy for both sides. Mission diversity is my last critique: The game is too long and I often started to feel a great sense of monotomy. It sounds like extra punishment, I get it, but I think they could have brought something like this into the game. We are constantly gearing up in the game, so why not insert a nice little twist and have the story see us lose the motion tracker towards the end of game? Was it really necessary to bring that gadget into play? In my opinion it took away a great portion of the fear. This is less a critique but maybe the mentioning of a couple of missed chances. I never adored James Cameron´s movie that much in the first place, I will admit that. I somehow get the feeling that the Creative Assembly team gave in to the still persisting Aliens 1986 hype and wanted to take a slice of that for their game, which was in my humble opinion absolutely unnecessary. I know that we´re never up against more than one alien while playing, but from a story standpoint it took away the magic of missions 5 and 6 where we had our one on one encounters with our formidable enemy. The "multiple aliens" twist is a major let down for me, since it sabotages the great 1979 feel of the game. I find the idea of the nest and the reactor mission very disappointing. Instead of going straight to "the perceived grand finale" with mission 10, they could have injected some stuff right there in the middle. The first change could have been applied after returning with the meds to Samuels and Taylor. I find that 18 missions as too much, especially because the game doesn´t seem to know how to reach a conclusion, and the large middle section with countless android missions did nothing for me.Ī reduction from 18 to 12 longer missions would have been better in my opinion. For me personally, Mission 10 was always the intended highlight of the campaign, and the finale never matched the tension. As it had been mentioned on this sub on multiple occasions, Mission 10 was probably designed to be the final mission, hence its lenght. I think that the campaign is most definitely too long. ![]() I know that most of us feel that way, but have you ever spoken about the the things that should have been done better or that were not so well executed in the finished game?Ĭome on, let´s give this masterpiece its fair share of criticism, I would love to hear your opinions, and I will start with this: In terms of the Alien franchise, I liked the fact that it was a somewhat secret little follow up to the original Alien 1979. ![]() It was by far the best horror game I ever had the privilege to enjoy. No other game I have ever played gave me the chills in the way that Alien Isolation did.
